Tamil Nadu
In December 2004 a Sound Seekers HARK! mobile ear clinic arrived in southern India with the mission of providing an audiology service to rural communities. Based upon a Land Rover field ambulance, the clinic carries specialist diagnostic equipment, an onboard power generator, a fresh water supply and a medicine refrigeration unit. Two days after the vehicle arrived in Tamil Nadu, the tsunami struck and the HARK! mobile clinic was immediately put to effective use as a field ambulance in the relief effort along the Indian coastline. A team of trained nurses is now providing a full ear screening and treatment service to children in the poorest communities in and around Tiruvannamalai.
