About Us
Our Mission: "Sound Seekers works in partnership
with developing countries in the Commonwealth to increase
awareness of, and assist in, the prevention and treatment
of deafness among children"

Sound Seekers in Action |
More than 120 million people across the world - half
of whom are children - suffer from preventable hearing
impairment. In developing countries, these people often
have no access to basic hearing assessment, treatment,
medicines or even transport to what limited facilities
there are. The first contact they might have with medical
or audiological specialists is often provided by Sound
Seekers.
|
We achieve our mission to help change these young lives by:
- Establishing and improving audiology services in developing
countries of The Commonwealth to screen for and treat hearing
loss and ear disease
- Providing HARK! mobile earcare clinics which deliver outreach
services as part of community healthcare programmes
- Supplying audiological equipment to schools and associations
for the deaf
- Training rural clinic technicians in audiology and audiology
equipment maintenance
- Informing rural communities about 'good ear health'
Sound Seekers has supported work all over the Commonwealth
from Bangladesh to Barbados, Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, South
Africa, Zambia and more. We have begun work to establish a
major project in Sierra Leone, and have recently extended
our HARK! programme to India.
To ensure we provide support where it is most needed, the
Society now has a policy of channeling its efforts to the
Commonwealth's twenty poortest countries in terms of human
development, as measured by the United
National Human Development Programme. At present these
are: Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Gambia, Nigeria,
Kenya, Uganda, Lesotho, Pakistan, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Swaziland,
papua New Guinea, Ghana, Vanuatu, Botswana, India, Namibia,
Solomon Islands.
